The Coronavirus challenge is bigger than anything most of us will have faced in our working lives. But the bigger the challenge, the greater are the heroes and heroines who rise to it.

We are proud at Combined Healthcare of the values of compassion and teamwork that drive what we do and who we are.  We want everyone who works for us and with us to have the opportunity to show solidarity, appreciation and gratitude for each other – for the things we do, for the extra mile we go, for the compassion we show.

We know that everyone is united in this challenge.  Frontline staff and support staff.  Staff working on our wards and people working throughout our community teams.  Permanent staff and bank.  Service users, carers and volunteers.  We are ALL in this together and we want to highlight, support and recognise everyone

Volunteer - RB

The Physiotherapy service has been extremely fortunate with regards to having had the benefit for many years of a volunteer - RB.

The gentleman in the past has been a patient within Mental Health services. He has a very deep understanding of the problems which patients face when they unfortunately suffer from Mental Health issues. He is very empathetic towards patients who are on the wards at the Harplands Hospital. He strongly encourages all patients to come to the sports hall and gym in order to benefit from participating in the therapeutic exercising which is taking place in those rooms. Many of our patients do use gym and exercise facilities when they are living in their own homes. They do then appreciate being able to access them during their stay in hospital. Our volunteer can be completely trusted to keep control over the safe and effective use of equipment in the gym and sports hall. Many of our patients do present with challenging behaviours and complex needs. I am 100 percent confident with regards to him providing a safe environment in the gym and sports hall, whilst also encouraging patients to actively participate in exercise therapy.

The sports hall is used for individual and group exercise. The exercise groups include bowling, table tennis, badminton, net ball, hula hoop, circuit training and balance balls, and all forms of exercises which will improve muscle strength, joint range of movement, balance and co-ordination. Our volunteer is extremely proficient in all of these group and individual activities. He does also mentor patients with regards to them gaining the skills to carry out the exercises successfully. Our volunteer is very committed to and loyal to the Physiotherapy service to patients.

We feel that he is part of the team and not unlike a staff member. I am very pleased that we have him.

What is your message to the person or team you are highlighting?
