Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Talking Therapies (formerly Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Wellbeing Service) is a NHS Talking Therapies Service that provides NICE (National Institute for Clinical and Health Excellence)-approved, evidence-based talking therapies and self-help courses for people with common mental health difficulties such as anxiety and depression who can be treated in primary care.
The service has therapists with additional training who specialise in working with people who are anxious or depressed and also have a long-term physical health condition – for example, diabetes, respiratory illness, chronic pain, cancer, cardiac disease and other long-term conditions.
The service has an Employment Advisor Service that provides help related to gaining, returning or staying in work who may be receiving a talking therapy in the service.
It is available to people aged 16 years old and above with no upper age limit who live in Stoke-on-Trent or North Staffordshire or who are registered with a Stoke-on-Trent or North Staffordshire GP.
Psychological therapies are commonly known as ‘talking therapies’ or ‘talking treatments’. Many people may benefit from talking treatments. They provide treatment for people with depression, anxiety and other common mental health issues. They can stand alone or be used alongside medicine or tablets prescribed by the doctor.
Talking treatments can also help people to deal with difficult issues in life, such as relationship problems, bereavement, difficult emotions such as anger, concerns at work or physical illness. Where people have long-term physical conditions, such as diabetes, talking treatments have been proven to support them to manage their condition more effectively.

The Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Talking Therapies Service has successfully joined a new partnership arrangement with Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust, which launched on 1 April 2020. The new Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Wellbeing Service brings together existing NHS talking therapy teams across Staffordshire who were formally known as the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services in the county into one. This enables people to easily access the service.
