North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust has received another opportunity to share its specialist knowledge and best practice on delirium (acute confusional state) on an international scale.
Dr Becky Chubb, Deputy Clinical Director at Combined Healthcare is co-leading on a module on delirium as part of a brand-new International Diploma in Older Adults’ Mental Health from The Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych).
Dr Chubb will work alongside Dr Mani Krishnan, previous Chair of the Faculty of Old Age Psychiatry at RCPsych, to deliver webinars and live online lectures with participants across the globe, sharing innovative assessment methods and relevant learning.
Dr Chubb’s contributions to the module builds on previous international recognition that she and Combined Healthcare has received on the topic of delirium.
The final preparations for the module are currently underway and the module will go live in May 2025. Dr Chubb said:
“I’m excited and honoured to be co-leading on the delirium module, a topic which I’m passionate about and is close to my heart, having seen my grandma experience it some years ago.
“I’ve taught many sessions on delirium before, but this is the first time I’ve needed to consider which time zone of the world I’m teaching in! Given the richly diverse cohort of medics on the course, I’m looking forward to learning as much as I teach.”
This year’s cohort includes doctors from around the world including Ghana, Malaysia, India, Jamaica and Sudan. Many of these countries do not have older adult psychiatry as a specialty in their local mental health settings and the participants will gain a valuable insight into delirium through this bespoke module.
The diploma is internationally recognised and will “allow learners to broaden their understanding of the clinical and service-related complexities of working within older adults’ mental health”.
Resources available to the learners will include the Combined Virtual Reality (CVR) Delirium Training film which was launched three years ago on World Delirium Awareness Day 2022.
