North Staffordshire Wellbeing College celebrates its first anniversary

Students, staff, service users and partners recently came together at Goldenhill Community Hall, Stoke-on-Trent to celebrate the first birthday of the Trust’s North Staffordshire Wellbeing College and promote the new courses that are being offered as part of the College’s autumn prospectus.

The Wellbeing College Team – Left to right, Chiara Barbaro, Rachel Bloor, Klaudia Lepska, Sherrine Khan and Jayne Simner.

The event featured stalls focusing on the courses and messaging that the Wellbeing College offers, including areas for self-care and involvement, as well as a breakout and mindfulness area that educated attendees on the different tools and skills available. The event also had areas for partners, including Just Family, one of the College’s new partners for 2023, who also kindly provided the location for the celebration.

Jayne Simner, Recovery & Experience Lead, said:

“I would like to take the opportunity of the Wellbeing College’s first birthday to thank all of people that have supported us over the last year including all the students that have attended our courses and sessions, Combined peers and teams that have given their expertise and knowledge to make these courses possible, and our partners within the community to help us grow and facilitate sessions within the local community. We look forward to what the future holds for the Wellbeing College.”

The Wellbeing College recently launched its new autumn prospectus for 2023, which features new courses such as ‘ Veterans Moving Forwards: Building a Brighter Future’, which is co-designed by veterans for veterans. The course is split into six, three-and-a-half-hour modules that are running over consecutive weeks. The aim of the course is to help veterans understand the impact of their military service within their current situation and gain perspective and clarity about their life’s direction.

Lee West, Chief Executive Officer for the Veteran Support Network C.I.C., said:

“It is vital for veterans especially with mental health issues such as PTSD to have these opportunities made available within a safe space, with staff who understand what it is that they are doing. Combined Healthcare and the Wellbeing College are working in partnership to make sure that offerings that are available around the country are available for veterans in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire, so that we can reduce isolation and get people into a course that is going to help them and the NHS moving forward with their treatment.”
