Combined awarded £49,998 to deliver vital wellbeing support to NHS staff

As NHS staff across the country continue to work under intense pressure, Combined Healthcare will be able to provide crucial support to help improve the wellbeing of local NHS staff, both now and in the future, thanks to a £49,998 grant from NHS Charities Together and NHS England.

The grant has been awarded as part of an £11 million programme – which includes a £5 million contribution from NHS England – and is one of 61 ambitious projects across England to receive funding from the programme since its launch in 2024.

Through this funding, Combined will deliver and embed Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) in the trust, developing a resilient model to support EFT into the future.

This will allow us to complete a programme to deliver a resilient and sustainable EFT programme to benefit our people, improving both our Staff Survey results and trust performance data.

It will also strengthen and further develop close working relationships between the trust charity, health and wellbeing team, the Staff Support and Counselling Service and all of our clinical directorates, positively impacting all of our people in providing the tools to promote their own health and wellbeing as well as supporting each other at time of need.

Frieza Mahmood, Chief People Officer at Combined Healthcare, said:

“We are incredibly grateful to NHS Charities Together and NHS England for this funding which will enable us to deliver real benefits to our staff.

“NHS staff are the driving force behind our healthcare system, but they are currently working in some of the toughest conditions in history, with growing pressure from increased demand for health services and rising NHS vacancies. With the latest NHS England staff survey results showing that nearly one in three NHS workers describe themselves as ‘burnt out’ and 42% saying they experienced work-related stress, the need for targeted, sustainable support has never been greater.”

Ellie Orton, Chief Executive of NHS Charities Together, comments:

“Winter flu season may be coming to a close, but with huge pressure on health services continuing to impact those who care for us, it’s vital that NHS staff receive the tools and support needed to look after their own health and wellbeing.

“We’re proud to be supporting organisations such as Combined with funding that has the potential to make a positive difference to our hardworking NHS staff and reduce the mental and physical toll of working in such a challenging environment.”

Evaluation and learnings from these projects will be used to inform future rounds of funding to support NHS staff wellbeing and to ensure that all projects are sustainable and have a lasting legacy to benefit the workforce both now and in the future.
