Combined is officially rated as the number one non-acute Trust in England

A performance dashboard

North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust is proud to announce that it has been officially ranked the number one ‘Non-Acute’ NHS Trust in England by NHS England and the Department of Health.

The ranking was published as part of the new NHS National Oversight Framework (NOF), which assesses NHS trusts across England against a range of agreed metrics. The Framework is designed to drive improvement, highlight excellence, and ensure greater transparency for patients and the public.

High-performing trusts such as Combined Healthcare may also benefit from greater autonomy – including the ability to reinvest surplus budgets directly into frontline services and improvements. NHS England has launched an interactive public dashboard that provides clear league tables and overall performance ratings for every trust in the country.

Commenting on the news, Chief Executive Dr Buki Adeyemo said

“The Trust Board is proud that the effort of our people has been recognised in the new NHS Oversight Framework. Every day I see the dedication and commitment it takes to achieve this level of performance, and I am humbled by it.

“Our ambition is to be Outstanding in everything we do and how we do it. We remain fully committed to improving the wellbeing of the people and families of our local communities – those we are privileged to serve. Thank you to everyone who has made this possible.”

Wes Streeting, Health and Social Care Secretary, said:

“I want to thank all of you at North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust – you are leading the way by demonstrating what top quality healthcare looks like, even at a time when the NHS is under huge pressure. Your position at the top of the new league tables is testament to your hard work, professionalism and commitment to patients, and I want you to know it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

“Our goal now is to take the best of the NHS to the rest – I know you will continue to lead by example and share your best practices with colleagues across the country. And we want you to put your foot down on the accelerator and continue to show our country’s health service what’s possible.
“I want to thank you all personally for the care you deliver every single day – you should be hugely proud of this achievement.”

Colleagues pose for a photo at the Oliver McGowan training recruitment day
On Thursday 4 June 2026 Combined Healthcare hosted an Oliver McGowan Training Recruitment Day. The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is named after Oliver McGowan, whose death shone a light on the need for health and social care staff to have better training.  All colleagues at Combined Healthcare are required to complete the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism. To help facilitate the sessions, the Trust is looking to employ more experts with lived experience of autism or learning disability, to support this essential training as co-facilitators.
