Combined Healthcare hailed by Managers in Partnership as having “a good claim to be England’s best trust”

Combined Healthcare’s commitment to its staff, leadership and passion for innovation has been lauded by Managers in Partnership – the union for health and care managers. These factors have led to Combined Healthcare having “a good claim to be England’s best trust”.

The praise comes in an article in the December 2023 edition of the MiP monthly magazine, centred on an interview with Dr Buki Adeyemo, Chief Executive at Combined Healthcare.

MiP praises the “remarkable record on staff morale and engagement” at the trust and the way in which senior leaders have focused on staff wellbeing as a priority. This includes “little tokens of appreciation” and rewarding staff with additional well-being days over the last few years.

Dr Adeyemo describes “challenging caseloads” that the trust is faced with and the vacancy issue across medical roles, including consultant psychiatrists and in technical support functions like IT and estates. She explains her own insight into what makes for an outstanding leadership culture, saying,

“Managers need to have compassion. That means putting yourself in other people’s shoes, whether it be the healthcare support worker, our domestic staff, or another executive: we need to be able to experience what others are experiencing. If you have that ability to look after those around you, I think you’ll get results. That’s reinforcing, and the cycle goes on. So make sure you have oodles of compassion for people.”

MiP summarises the article by saying:

“So Combined’s high morale rests on a range of strengths: the stability and cultural reinforcement that comes from developing leaders in-house; an accessible chief executive, acting publicly and positively on signals from the workforce; careful attention to showing staff they are valued; a close partnership with staff side; regular communications through a wide range of channels; and an inventive, forward-looking, mission-focused approach to leadership.”
