Janet Dawson appointed as Trust Chair

Following a competitive recruitment process, North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust is delighted to announce the appointment of Janet Dawson as Chair of the Trust from 1 April 2024

Janet Dawson

Formerly the Vice Chair of Combined Healthcare and an independent Non-Executive Director since joining the Trust’s Board in 2019, Janet brings with her many years of experience from her executive career in human resources and occupational pensions, finishing her executive career as the Chief Human Resources Officer for a large international plc.

With a particular interest in facilitating diverse, inclusive and engaging cultures and championing everyone to fulfil their potential, Janet has also acted as the Trust’s Chair of the People, Culture and Development Committee (PCDC), as well as being the Deputy Chair of the Trust’s wider Board of Directors. She was also the Wellbeing Guardian for the Trust and Non-Executive Lead on Freedom to Speak Up.

From 2015 to 2023, Janet was an independent Governor at Manchester Metropolitan University, a member of their Finance & Resources Committee and since 2020, Deputy Chair of the Board and Chair of their Remuneration Committee. In 2021, Janet joined Derbyshire Community Health Service NHS Foundation Trust as a Non-Executive Director and is their Vice Chair and Chair of their Quality People Committee.  Earlier this year she joined the Board of the Scott Bader Company Limited as a Non-Executive Director and is Chair of their Remuneration Committee.

Janet said:

“It is a real privilege to be appointed Chair of this outstanding organisation, where our staff work so hard and are so committed to our service users, their families and carers throughout Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire. It is a very exciting time to be taking the Chair role as we continue with the implementation of our Trust Strategy that takes us to 2028. Our focus will continue to be our people, our service delivery and our response to the evolving wellbeing needs of our local communities.

“I’d also like to pay a huge tribute to David Rogers for his leadership in his various Board roles over the past ten years, a period where he has helped lead us through the COVID-19 pandemic, has seen the CQC rating for Combined Healthcare improve to Good and then Outstanding, and the prestigious ‘Trust of the Year’ award accolade from the HSJ Awards 2022 – thank you David, from all of us.”

Dr Buki Adeyemo, Chief Executive, added:

“Janet has been a member of our Board since 2019 and knows our Trust, our strengths and our challenges so well. She has a wealth of experience to bring to the role of Chair and great connections with our staff and region. I am confident that Janet is ideally placed to lead our Board as we currently implement our Trust Strategy and face many different opportunities and challenges ahead.

“I must also say a huge thank you to David Rogers for his brilliant tenure and leadership as Chair until 31 March 2024.”
