Janet Dawson

Brief Biography

Janet is Vice Chair and an independent director. Her role is to gain assurance that the Trust meets all its governance, clinical, corporate, legal and statutory obligations, as well as ensuring it remains financially sustainable and delivers excellent service.

Prior to joining the Board in 2019, Janet had retired from an executive career in human resources and occupational pensions, most recently holding the position of Group HR Director at a large multinational organisation. With a particular interest in facilitating diverse, inclusive and engaging cultures and championing women to fulfil their potential, Janet also acts as the Trust’s Chair of the People, Culture and Development Committee, as well as and Deputy Chair of the Trust’s wider board of directors.  She is the Wellbeing Guardian for the Trust and non-executive lead on Freedom to Speak Up.

Since 2015, Janet has also been an independent Governor at Manchester Metropolitan University,  a member of their Finance & Resources Committee and, since 2020, Chair of their Remuneration Committee.  In 2021 Janet joined Derbyshire Community Health Service NHS Foundation Trust as a non-executive director and is Chair of their People Quality Committee and a member of their Mental Health Act Committee.
