First Stoke Social Older Person’s Group a great success

The first Stoke Social Group for Older Adults, a collaboration between North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust, Stoke City F.C. and Home Instead, was held this week at the Bet 365 Stadium, Stoke-on-Trent, and was very well attended.

The group runs every Wednesday from 10am – 12 noon at the ground, and is for older people who may feel isolated. It gives them the opportunity to take part in group activities and engage with gentle exercise sessions to help both their physical and mental health. They can also talk to professionals about any mental health concerns they have.

Combined’s Nicola Mayo said: “People played bingo, curling, had lots of coffee and biscuits, and most importantly of all chatted and socialised with others.

“They have all said they are going to come back next week and bring others with them, and tell others about it, so hopefully as the weeks go on it will grow in numbers.”
