Local MP, Jonathan Gullis visits Harplands Hospital

North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust recently welcomed Jonathan Gullis, MP for Stoke-on-Trent North, Kidsgrove & Talke, to its Harplands Hospital site in Stoke-on-Trent.

Jonathan was met by David Rogers, Chairman, Paul Draycott, Chief People Officer and Kenny Laing, Chief Nurse, alongside other members of senior leadership staff, before having a tour of the completed Project Chrysalis site within the hospital, the Trust’s multi-million pound investment into improving inpatient facilities.

Jonathan was given a tour around the new 16-bed ward with individual en-suite bedrooms, assisted bathrooms, a gym facility, garden and more. Project Chrysalis went live on Monday 12 June and you can read more about the state-of-the-art facilities and plans for the new ward in the ‘Latest News’ section.

After Project Chrysalis, Jonathan visited Ward 6 for older people with complex needs, where he learnt more about the outstanding services provided and was given a pre-launch preview of the new garden on-site for the service users.

The visit concluded with a walk around and overview of the Crisis Care Centre, recently named Regional Champion in the Midlands for ‘The Excellence in Mental Health Care Award’ at the NHS Parliamentary Awards 2023. Jonathan was interested to find out more about the partnership working between the Trust and the emergency services. He also learnt about the 24/7 helpline and self-referral process of walk-ins to the Centre.

Jonathan Gullis MP said:

“It was excellent to be welcomed to Harplands Hospital to see and hear first-hand their day-to-day operation, and how they support their patients.

“As part of my visit, I was really pleased to have a tour of the brand-new Project Chrysalis ward, including the brilliant outside space which has been created, just before it went live this week.

“Speaking to frontline staff across one of the operational wards and the Crisis Care Centre, what was most apparent was their incredible dedication to their patients. It is fantastic news that the Crisis Care Centre recently became Regional Champion for excellent mental health care in the NHS Parliamentary Awards.

“Thank you to all staff who took the time to speak with me during my visit.”

Dr Buki Adeyemo, Chief Executive, North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust, commented:

“Thank you to Jonathan for taking interest in our Trust and visiting our Harplands Hospital site. We were pleased to show him our latest Project Chrysalis developments, Ward 6 and our Crisis Care Centre and share our aim as a Trust to be outstanding in all we do and how we do it.

“It was a good opportunity for Jonathan to meet staff in different areas of Harplands Hospital and we hope he thoroughly enjoyed the visit.”

David Rogers, Chairman at Combined NHS Trust, said:

“It was good to meet Jonathan and show him around the facilities we have at Harplands Hospital, including Project Chrysalis, and to our teams in Ward 6 and the Crisis Care Centre. We are always pleased to welcome visitors to the Trust and thank Jonathan for coming to our site.”
