Aims and Objectives

The Sutherland Centre is an outpatient centre that offers mental health assessment, treatments and interventions to support patients’ recovery journeys.

The Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT) offer assessment and treatment for mental health issues that are often complex in nature.  We aim to offer a recovery focused model which seeks to assist service users in developing self-management techniques which maximise their resilience and reduce vulnerability to mental illness.

The CMHT includes a wide range of practitioners who work together in a multidisciplinary model (MDT). The MDT is made up of psychiatrists, mental health nurses, psychologists, psychological practitioners, health care support workers, support time recovery workers, occupational therapists, pharmacists, nurse consultants etc.

CMHTs are often referred to as a secondary mental health services therefore we offer support to service users with increased mental health needs. We work closely with our primary care mental health teams (IAPT) to ensure the right service is supporting dependent on a number of factors.

Mental health issues we support are typically:

  • Complex anxiety disorders
  • Complex depression
  • Bipolar disorders
  • Schizophrenia
  • Psychosis
  • Personality disorders
  • Substance Misuse with a dual diagnosis of the above.

CMHTs offer assessment and treatment to service users  with the above mental health needs, we offer a recovery focused model which seeks to support transfer back to locality based care. We are a time limited service.
