About the service

The Community Assessment Stabilisation & Treatment Team (CASTT) is a specialist service that works with people who experience severe and long-standing personality difficulties and engage in behaviours that place them at a high risk of harm.

What happens when my treatment is completed?

Just as we ensure a transition period into our service, we will work together to create a plan of next steps when you have completed your treatment.

Working together we will develop a plan that is individual to you ensuring that you are able to maintain the skills you have gained, are able to manage and plan for any potential difficulties in the future as well as considering any other support that may help you.

Information for families and carers

Service users are encouraged to consent to share appropriate information with carers. In the event consent is not given and there are confidentiality restrictions, carers can share their knowledge and information about the service user, access information relevant to their caring role and should be offered opportunities to discuss any difficulties in their caring role.

A carer can be anyone, and anyone can be a carer at any time; spouses, partners, children, friends or parents.

The team strives to support all carers in any capacity. We acknowledge the vital care and support that carers offer and  understand that this may sometimes feel overwhelming.

Professionals in the service are able to refer any informal carer for emotional support, practical help, break opportunities and social activities, along with support to access benefits and grants.

Carers may also self refer to North Staffordshire’s Carers association should they wish by contacting the telephone number—01782 793100.

Further information regarding support for carers may be accessed via the North Staffordshire Carers website.

Testimonials

The Service User said that they realise how much better they are doing than they were previously and can recognise this themselves. They also said they are glad they have the support from CASTT and their STR Worker to help them navigate some difficulties as they almost definitely wouldn't have done it prior to coming to CASTT. Also reported they felt very contained and happy.

The support I have received from Teri-Ann from the CASTT Team has been over and above anything I ever expected. I was placed with the CASTT Team at what I think has been the worst time of my life to date. She recognised the seriousness of my concern regarding accessing of my records and looked into this further rather than shutting me down. Teri-Ann has proved to be a key part in things changing for me.

Ruth Imber and Teri-Ann Eva received the following compliment from a Service User: "Both are amazing throughout, they have helped us through difficult times, both are good at their jobs and work hard, love the non-judgement. Many thanks"

CASTT has given me my life back and equipped me with so many coping skills and thought processes to challenge difficult situations and help me to live a successful and positive life. Saying a simple thank you honestly doesn't seem enough to show just how grateful I am to have been given the opportunity to be supported by such an amazing team! The whole CASTT team is simply fantastic and an absolute asset to the mental health services in Stoke on Trent!

You've made such a difference in my life, stopped me in my tracks at the points I needed to be stopped. I really feel like I've changed for the better, in all aspects of life.

Richard from the CASTT team received the following compliment from a service user: I want to thank you for everything you helped me with whilst I have been under CASTT.  You are a fantastic mental health practitioner, compassionate, honest, and supportive.  I have learnt so much from you and I feel it will stick forever. Thank you.
